We don’t know where the time went, but summer has gone as quickly as it arrived. With the end of summer today we say goodbye to our summer interns Nailah Looby and Deidre Pell two unique, hardworking and intelligent young women. As our interns finish up their self-assessments and head back to the Hospitality Training Institute they take away new skills and a lasting network with each other and Trade Winds. Before bidding them farewell and wishing them the best in their future endeavours we sat down with them one last time to ask about their time at Trade Winds Hotel and Bayhouse Restaurant.
Still very soft spoken Nailah said she still wants to be a culinary lecturer now more than ever, she says even though she enjoys cooking and creating she gets more joy from imparting her knowledge. Of her experience at Trade Winds she said she learned news skills and the overall experience was fun, educational, rewarding and definitely an eye-opener as to what to expect in the real-world environment. After graduation Nailah intends to apply to Teachers Training School and later on culinary school.
When we first met Deidre her motto was “what you put in is what you get out” and she believes that she stuck with her motto. She’s excited to graduate and take on new challenges but equally sadden about leaving. “I feel like I have accomplished a lot by improving on my weaknesses and learning new skills”. Deidre plans to work for a few years as she saves to attend college.
Both interns said that the most rewarding aspects about their internship at Trade Winds Hotel and Bayhouse Restaurant was the staff. The staff didn’t hesitate to teach and share their experiences and insights with them. Lovely, smart, hardworking, driven are just some of the words the staff used to describe these interns. The Management and Staff of Trade Winds Hotel and Bayhouse Restaurant wishes Nailah and Deidre all the best in their future endeavours and it was indeed a pleasure having you both as part our team.
