Sprucing Up.

You know summer has ended when your Facebook and Instagram newsfeed is filled with first day and back to school pics.   And oh what a summer we had here at Trade Winds Hotel and Bay House Restaurant, with an explosive carnival season, T20 cricket and beautiful weddings.  Thank you for choosing to celebrate your milestones and spending your summer with us… it was a pleasure having you all.

As we prepare for the winter season and with a few soft days our team has been busy.   Housekeeping with help from Mr. McMaster and his maintenance crew have been deep cleaning all the rooms and public areas.   Our solar system, water waste management system and fire alarms have undergone preventative maintenance checks.  Fresh coats of paint have been applied along with minor repairs throughout the property.

Mr. Abraham and his grounds team have been busy as well:

  • They’ve removed all overgrown and old trees, landscaped the front and back gardens as well as the hotel’s entrance to improve the grounds and make them more tropically lush
  • Applied  the  2nd treatment to remaining coconut palms to fight against lethal yellowing  (which seems to working)

The recent rains have replenished what the summer heat took and our first harvest of avocados was bountiful…feel free to order some guacamole or an avocado salad next time you dine at Bay House ;-).  Blooming and flourishing as well are our orchids that were planted in the coconut bark of the palms that didn’t survive the lethal yellowing.

Management and Staff alike have been taking refresher courses and workshops in Hurricane & Disaster Preparedness as well as Environmental & Best Practices Policies.  All departments are now fully on board recycling cans, cardboard boxes, bottles etc which are collected weekly by Antigua & Barbuda Waste Recycling Corp.  Energy savers bulbs are being used throughout the entire hotel and a new energy saving walk-in refrigerator will be installed in Bay House’s kitchen.

Earlier this year we completed construction on a larger multimedia events/conference facility and refurbished the bathrooms in our Restaurant to include motion sensor taps and dual flush toilets.  We are excited and pleased to announce that refurbishment have begun on two of our hotel rooms.  The rooms will take on a modern, light and crisp appearance whilst still maintaining a welcoming and relaxed ambiance that we are known for.  As the construction continues we would like to thank you for your patience during this process and infringement on your guest experience will be minimal.
