Worldwide October is observed as Breast Cancer Awareness Month and around the world there are many campaigns and events planned to increase the awareness of the disease. Although many are aware of breast cancer they are still many that don’t take the steps or put plans in place for early detection. Over the years there has been lots of progress in research and treatments but we must continue to push forward to find a cure.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in Antigua & Barbuda with 1 out of every 4 women diagnosed with cancer being breast cancer. Throughout the year here in Antigua & Barbuda organizations such as Breast Friends, Why Me? Cancer Society and ManUp for Prostate Cancer Foundation host many events to build awareness, to raise funds as well as provide emotional support to cancer patients and families.
Trade Winds Hotel and Bay House Restaurant & Bar has joined the cause and will “Go Pink” by supporting and taking part in the following events this year:
- Oct-5-2013: FCIB Cancer Awareness Walk through St. John’s – 5:00pm
- Oct-19-2013: Relay for Hope at YASCO Grounds – 5:00pm
- Oct-24-2013: Zumbathon at Mount St. John’s Medical Center – 5:30pm
- Oct-27-2013: One For The Girls 5K Fun Walk/Run at Rising Sun Grounds – 4:00pm
